Varya Malina of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise recently took it upon herself to research the topic of risky selfies, and she shared the frightening results with her followers. Known for her flawless photos, the 90 Day Fiancé star is no stranger to “doing it for the ‘gram.” But after getting called out for a careless selfie, she found out that what she thought was harmless fun can actually be extremely dangerous.
The bubbly Russian has been in the United States for a few years now after following her boyfriend Geoffrey Paschel to Tennessee after his failed proposal in Russia on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. Since then, their relationship status has been in question, though there are many signs that the couple is still together. Varya has been traveling around the country for months, making new friends in several different states, experiencing new things, and sharing stylish Instagram pictures with 90 Day Fiancé fans. However, recently, she posted a video of herself dancing on a set of train tracks and many of her followers were appalled.
Apparently, a teenager suffered serious injuries after being hit by a train while taking photos on the same tracks Varya was on. After finding that out, Varya read up about a journalist who did an experiment measuring the time it took to hear a train until it passed him. Supposedly, he found that a train going 70 mph wouldn’t be heard until just two seconds before it passed. Varya was shocked, commenting, “This report shows that even with huge freight trains, you can’t hear them until they’re almost on top of you.”
The train track video seems to have become one of Varya’s instant regrets and the 90 Day Fiancé star clearly wishes she hadn’t posted it. “If I knew this 19 century railway was still active, I would never be that irresponsible filming there,” Varya added. She urged her followers to reconsider the next time they decided to take a risky selfie. “Do not over estimate your reactions,” Varya commented. “It’s not worth taking chances with your life.” It’s good advice — even if you think there’s no chance a train is going to come, why risk it?
After appearing on the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, Varya has become quite popular on Instagram, and that could be leading her to feel pressured to post eye-catching content. Varya’s Instagram videos have got her into trouble before, but generally, it has been because she gave away more information than she intended. Now that Varya has learned the dangers behind taking risky selfies, she’ll be more likely to practice caution next time.
