Casting for The Bachelor season 26 has just closed, but many women reportedly turned down the chance to go on the show because of ABC’s problematic pick for Bachelor. Although there are many great options for the next Bachelor lead, the man rumored to be the network’s number-one choice is as controversial with contestants as he is with fans. If the claims of contestants dropping out is true, it’s not a good sign for the upcoming season.
Traditionally, the lead of The Bachelor is selected from the contestants who appeared on the previous season of The Bachelorette. However, The Bachelor season 26 will be slightly different because it will be preceded by two seasons of The Bachelorette—Katie Thurston’s and Michelle Young’s seasons. After Katie’s season, several popular candidates emerged from Bachelorette’s final five, including Michael Allio, Andrew Spencer, and Justin Glaze. However, ABC’s supposed pick is considerably more controversial.
(Potential Spoilers Ahead!)
Recently, blogger Reality Steve revealed the next lead is supposedly Greg Grippo. There’s still time for the network to change its mind, but Reality Steve said he would be “very surprised” if Greg isn’t their final pick. However, Greg has strongly divided fans and even potential contestants. A Bachelor Nation spoiler Instagram account called bachelornation. scoop shared a submission from a follower whose sister was “in the final stages of casting.” The follower added, “she backed out (and apparently lots of others did) when they saw the direction of who was probably going to be the bachelor.”
Greg was a frontrunner on Katie’s season until he had a meltdown and left the show. Since then, many fans have questioned his sincerity and believe he may have had ulterior motives for going on the show. Greg previously attempted to be an actor, and there have been other allegations from individuals who claim to know the former Bachelorette contestant, calling Greg a schemer who puts on an act that he’s a nice guy. Many fans consider Greg’s behavior to be toxic and problematic, and it appears that it’s an opinion shared by women who considered going on the show.
So far, The Bachelor has no official lead, but if potential contestants are declining the opportunity to date the next Bachelor, it could indicate that Greg is in the final stages of securing the gig. A lot of fans are sure to be upset if Greg becomes the Bachelor, and it looks like the women auditioning for the show feel the same. During his dramatic exit, Greg expressed his distaste for the show’s process, which is one of many reasons why Greg should not be the next Bachelor. However, the latest rumors and reports make it seem like ABC is ready to go full-steam ahead on a season starring Greg.
