Publisher Ziggurat Interactive has announced plans to release BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites in September 2021, along with a physical release from Limited Run Games that will launch across Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. After spending time in limbo, the BloodRayne IP received a second chance thanks to its acquisition by Ziggurat Interactive in June 2020. This new lease on life has worked wonders for the property in the year and change since then.
During E3 2021, developer WayForward unveiled BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, promising a remastered experience of the 2D classic with updated 4K visuals. The hack-and-slash title received new voice acting as well, with Laura Bailey cast in the role of Rayne and Troy Baker assuming the part of Kagan. Fortunately, BloodRayne looks as punishingly brutal as ever, and fans will have a chance to experience as much for themselves in the coming weeks.
Today, August 12, Ziggurat Interactive shared a September 9 release date for BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites. The title will launch digitally on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, the publisher revealed. It also confirmed a physical edition through Limited Run Games for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 consoles. In addition to Laura Bailey and Troy Baker, Patrick Seitz and Todd Haberkorn lent their talents to the remaster, further imbuing BloodRayne’s rich characters with new life. With regards to the experiential enhancements, WayForward added higher resolution sprites, HD support with up to 4K visuals, and haptics for modern controllers. The third entry in the BloodRayne series, which debuted in 2002, the WayForward-developed BloodRayne: Betrayal launched digitally on PlayStation and Xbox storefronts in 2011. It migrated to Steam a few years later, giving PC players a chance to take femme fatale Rayne on a vampire-slaying adventure like no other.
Developer WayForward has kept busy in the decade since its side-scrolling BloodRayne outing. The studio helmed production on the likes of 2013’s DuckTales Remastered, multiple Shantae adventures, River City Girls, and much more. Who knows, perhaps BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites won’t be the last we see of Rayne?
BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites comes to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on September 9.
