Brie Larson gives audiences a glimpse at her physical training for Captain Marvel 2, bringing some serious nostalgia with a bit of 90s flair. The actress made her MCU debut in Marvel’s Phase 3 movie, Captain Marvel. In the movie, Larson stars as Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot that becomes a superhero after an explosion exposes her to energy from the Tesseract.
In Captain Marvel, Larson was tasked with heading the first female-led MCU movie. The addition was considered a success, and Larson reprised her role in Avengers: Endgame to take up the fight against Thanos. Although she appeared in some of the movie’s most pivotal scenes, Larson was absent for most of the film. A short explanation was offered by the character in Endgame, and a bit more was revealed in WandaVision, but the heroine has not seen major screen time since her MCU debut. Luckily, audiences will get the opportunity to explore Larson’s character a bit more in the near future since Marvel Studios announced they will be producing Captain Marvel 2, aka The Marvels.
Like its predecessor, Captain Marvel 2 is sure to be filled with action-packed sequences. The fighting scenes are generally strenuous, and Larson has been known to do most of her own stunts. Her involvement means that the star has to be in pristine physical condition. Larson’s Instagram has given viewers an opportunity to see how the actress is training for her upcoming role. In her latest workout video, Larson is bringing back the 90s along with her biceps. Watch below to see how Larson merges her workout and memories of past decades.
The video has been recorded to match the style of a 90s VCR tape. The questionable clarity, battery meter, and dull colors make Larson’s training look just as if it had been filmed decades ago. The only things Larson is missing to complete the video’s appearance are some sweatbands and a leotard. Larson seems to be progressing well toward her fitness goal, completing a series of decline pushups with a tension band. Captain Marvel 2 has already begun filming, but she will have to maintain her strength if she plans to continue to perform most of her stunts.
It is fitting that Larson chose the VHS throwback since her origin story took place in the ’90s. She has a bit to go before she is on Thor actor Chris Hemsworth’s level, but Larson’s muscle tone is impressive. The fact that Larson can complete the pushups with a smile on her face makes it obvious that she is more than capable of living up to her on-screen expectations for Captain Marvel 2.
