The sidekick has become a beloved staple character in the world of Disney animated movie classics. Sidekicks are always on hand to loyally aid the hero, comfort the princess, or even serve under the villain’s command. They are often more than just supporting characters and sometimes end up stealing the show.
There are a huge variety of sidekicks in Disney’s animated classics, including cute and cuddly companions, hilariously wise-cracking foils, sinister lackeys, and bumbling henchmen. With so many out there with different personalities and looks, there is a favorite for every fan. Furthermore, it is likely that fans may share certain personality traits with their favorite Disney sidekick.
10 Jiminy Cricket
Perhaps the first Disney movie sidekick is Jiminy Cricket. Acting as Pinocchio’s conscience, Jiminy tries his best to make sure Pinocchio stays far away from trouble. Unfortunately, he doesn’t always succeed, Yet that doesn’t stop him from not only being a loyal friend to Pinocchio but becoming one of Disney’s most iconic characters.
Jiminy Cricket fans are probably wise and insightful, with a strong sense of right and wrong. They know to stay away from trouble and are resistant to temptation. They are most likely the friend that others turn to for advice and guidance, and they are always happy to help.
In Tangled, Maximus didn’t really start off as the main protagonists’ sidekick. As the captain of the guards’ loyal steed, he was just as driven to capture Flynn Ryder as his master, leading the guards’ horses in the hunt. But Rapunzel’s kindness won over the horse, and he soon joined her on her quest to see the floating lanterns, even if it meant tolerating Flynn. In fact, his rivalry with Flynn is one of the reasons why Maximus is one of the funniest Disney characters of the 2010s.
Since Maximus is effectively a leader, it is likely that fans of Maximus are born leaders themselves. Furthermore, Maximus fans could be driven and focused, refusing to let anyone stand in their way or get the better of them. Unless, of course, it’s their favorite tasty treat. Even Maximus can’t resist a nice, shiny apple.
8 Diablo The Raven
Disney villain sidekicks, competent or not, are often sources of comic relief. One sidekick that deviates from this rule is Diablo, Maleficent’s pet raven in Sleeping Beauty. Unlike her foolish goons, Diablo is smart, accomplished, and sinister, acting as Maleficent’s eyes across the land. He is the perfect companion for the Mistress of All Evil.
Fans of Diablo are perhaps a bit spooky at heart and enjoy the darker side of things. They are also most likely to be smart, fine with taking instructions, and can be trusted to successfully complete tasks alone. Like the raven himself, Diablo fans are very reliable.
Although nervous by nature, Flounder is Ariel’s best friend and is always nearby wherever she goes. Aside from perhaps Scuttle, he is the only one who is supportive of Ariel’s interest in the human world. He is very loyal and protective of Ariel no matter what she does, and when she becomes a human, Flounder is nearby to make sure she is safe. Flounder is the epitome of a loyal Disney Princess sidekick.
It’s likely that Flounder fans would rather curl up with a good book or movie than go outdoors on an adventure, but that does not make them any less loyal or brave. Fans of Flounder are most likely to share Flounder’s courage and are always there to defend their friends in good times and back.
6 Pain And Panic
Incompetent imps Pain and Panic are the bumbling henchmen of Hades, the Lord of the Underworld. As far as Disney villain sidekicks go, these two are extremely entertaining and deserved more screen time than they had. Although loyal and dedicated, they were not good at carrying out their tasks, their biggest failure being not disposing of the newly mortal baby Hercules.
Pain and Panic remain dedicated to serving Hades through thick and thin, so it’s likely that fans of these two are just as dedicated to whatever task is at hand, no matter how difficult it is. Pain and Panic fans are probably a bit goofy and lovable at heart, but they may actually be excellent at keeping secrets. After all, Pain and Panic kept a very big secret from their boss for 18 years.
As one of the best “himbos” in the movies, it’s almost hard to believe that well-meaning Kronk is the villain’s sidekick rather than the hero’s. Although not Disney’s most critically acclaimed animated movie, The Emperor’s New Groove is a firm favorite of many Disney fans because of its memorable quotes, snappy humor, and Kronk, who shines as villain Yzma’s dim-witted henchman.
Fans of Kronk will most likely know right from wrong with a gut feeling rather than recognizing it first-hand, and they’ll follow their instincts whether it goes against the rules or not. Furthermore, Kronk fans probably have never-ending patience and very rarely get angry. They may also be excellent chefs.
The wise-cracking dragon Mushu is the sidekick of Mulan. Disgraced and demoted by Mulan’s ancestors, Mushu takes it into his own hands to redeem himself by going on to make Mulan a war hero. His reasons were initially selfish, but he soon grows fond of Mulan and sticks by her to the end, even playing a big part in defeating Shan Yu.
Being one of Disney’s funniest sidekicks, it is likely that Mushu fans have a big sense of humor and never fail to make those around them laugh too. They are probably extroverted and quick-witted as well but most importantly, fans of Mushu are perhaps determined to achieve personal success, and as helping their friends succeed as well.
The Genie is one of Disney’s finest creations, thanks to his timeless portrayal by Robin Williams in one of his best roles and the brilliant character animation. Warm and full of life, the comedic Genie was invaluable to Aladdin, supporting him through both granted wishes and willing friendship.
It is likely that fans of Genie are just as theatrical, funny, and vivacious as he is. Genie fans are most likely extroverts who are perhaps the perfect party host, enjoying the attention as well as willingly being attentive. But most importantly, Genie fans are always there for their friends and put their friends’ needs before themselves.
Olaf is the Disney sidekick character of what is perhaps now Disney’s most popular movie in mainstream culture: Frozen and its sequel, Frozen II. The cheerful snowman was inadvertently created by Elsa and is found later by Anna and Kristoff, where he ironically expresses a desire to see summer. With his happy-go-lucky demeanor and cute design, Olaf quickly won the hearts of many Disney fans.
Fans of Olaf are most likely optimistic with a positive sunny outlook on life. Nothing can cool their spirit and they will risk everything for the ones they love. Olaf fans are also probably soft and gentle by nature as well and are very unlikely to get angry.
1 Tinker Bell
The feisty fairy Tinker Bell is one of Disney’s most iconic characters. Although she can be considered the sidekick of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell has become a star on her own, and she certainly wouldn’t see herself as anyone’s sidekick. Regardless, she cares greatly for Peter and will stop at nothing to make sure he’s safe.
Tinker Bell fans are most likely to be passionate, thinking more with emotion than logic. They could also be independent, bold, and perhaps a little bit sassy. Like Tinker Bell, they may be confident and proud, but underneath they have a soft side and a kind heart. They would not let anything bad happen to those they love.
