Video game publishers Koei Tecmo and developers Omega Force have released new details regarding their upcoming Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires. Dynasty Warriors is a long-running franchise that saw the release of its first game back in February of 1997. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires serves as a spin-off to Dynasty Warriors 9 which came out in 2018. As with other Empires spin-offs, it enables the player to set out on a campaign to conquer the whole of china using strategic tactics and features not available in the main games.
Traditionally, Dynasty Warriors games feature a 1-versus-1000 hack and slash style gameplay where the player is able to take control of different warriors using them to turn the tides in large-scale war-like battles. The Empires spin-offs, which first showed up in 2004 with Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires, have been a much-loved addition to the series which has added in tactical and strategical elements inspired by Koei Tecmo’s earlier Romance of the Three Kingdoms games.
Details reviewed in a recent post from Gematsu go over the game’s new tactical gameplay including features like the Politics System and Territory Stroll. Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires Politics System will enable players to use domestic affairs commands to help procure useful resources like food, gold, and battle troops. Players will also be able to use political commands to recruit, hire, or try and steal new officers from competing kingdoms. The Territory Stroll is a new feature being brought to the series that allows the player to explore ancient China in between battles giving a chance to enhance relationships with different officers while also taking up different requests they may provide. Territory Stroll will also offer the chance to recruit new unaffiliated officers to your ranks and give an enhanced perspective on the views of you officers when bonding.
Another feature of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires touched on is the upgraded Photo Mode. Players will now be given the ability to equip whatever clothing they choose underneath the armor in the character editor and choose what the character is wearing and when. Unlike the set pieces in the previous installments, the novel cosmetic upgrade of being able to layer your playable character’s clothing and armor should thoroughly enhance the fun and creativity involved when snapping in-game shots of the player experience.
While Koei Tecmo has spent over two decades now pumping out new entries to the Dynasty Warriors series, among other well-established franchises like Dead or Alive and the Atelier games, some gamers may be starting to feel like the games are in desperate need of a reboot. While it would seem there is definitely a market for the Dynasty Warriors games and their spin-offs, the gameplay involved has not seen many drastic changes throughout the years. With many new installments presenting upgraded graphics, new storylines, and minor changes to mechanics and gameplay, it may not be enough to keep many fans engaged for much longer. Slated for release on February 15th, 2022 in North America and Europe, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will give players the chance to decide for themselves if the developer’s slight improvements to the series newest installments are enough to keep them coming back for more.
