MTV’s Floribama Shore is officially returning for season 5 on September 16, which, according to the recently-dropped trailer, will be chock-full of fights, drunken shenanigans and some cuddly animal guest stars. Fans fell in love with the series when it premiered in 2017 but feared there wouldn’t be any more seasons of Floribama Shore due to personal issues in several of the cast members’ lives. However, the crew is back for new adventures in Athens, Georgia.
When it comes to drama, the previous season of Floribama Shore did not disappoint. During the group’s first night together in Missoula, Montana, Nilsa Prowant shocked everyone by revealing her pregnancy with boyfriend Gus Gazda. The two are now engaged. Castmate Gus Smyrnios, whom Nilsa had an on-again, off-again fling with over the years, didn’t take the news so well. The rest of the season largely focused on Gus and his inner demons as his ongoing feud with Jeremiah Buoni continued. At one point, Gus even fled the house in freezing temperatures wearing minimal clothing. Though everyone was excited for a fresh start when filming transitioned to sunny Lake Havasu City, Arizona, production was shut down indefinitely when a crew member tested positive for COVID-19.
Following a brief break, Floribama Shore will be back for season 5 on September 16. Nilsa and her co-stars shared the official trailer (seen below) on Instagram. The clip shows a reel of their antics in Athens, with Candace Rice rebranding the series as “Georgibama Shore.” Aimee Hall can be seen giving somebody the middle finger, a very pregnant Nilsa is “about to pop” and multiple people get hit with objects. In true Floribama fashion, there’s drinking, twerking and running away from security cameras. Additionally, the Floribama gang acquires some cuddly friends, including a puppy, pig and other various farm animals.
Each cast member shared the trailer on Instagram except Gus, who retweeted the video on Twitter. Earlier this summer, he was banned from the platform after laying into a fan who commented something he didn’t like. Not only did Gus tell the single mother she resembled Donkey from Shrek, but he also said her “baby would be better in foster care.” Anyone who’s seen a few recent episodes of Floribama Shore knows that Gus can have a short temper. Even he’s admitted that he needs to improve his mental health. Longtime viewers will remember how former star Kortni Gilson stepped away from the show following a drunken breakdown during season 3. Kortni realized she was still dealing with trauma from a sexual assault several years prior and made it her mission to seek help.
With Floribama Shore season 5 right around the corner, viewers are curious to see if Gus has also taken steps to get into a better state of mind. Obviously, no reality TV show is complete without its fair share of dramatic moments, but many fans saw Gus’ toxic actions last season as a cry for help. Hopefully, some time spend away from the cameras and with his new rumored girlfriend, Samantha Carucci, was exactly what he needed. Maybe he and Jeremiah will even be able to mend their bromance once and for all.
Floribama Shore premieres September 16 at 8pm on MTV.
