The latest Genshin Impact livestream revealed a lot about the upcoming content for Version 2.1. Continuing the Inazuma storyline, Travelers will once again be thrust into the political turmoil surrounding the Electro nation. In addition to teasing new story quests, events, weapons, and Artifacts in the Version 2.1 Special Program, miHoYo also confirmed which new playable characters will be added to the game when the update releases.
Many of the biggest reveals in the 2.1 Special Program weren’t all that surprising for fans who’d been keeping up with the game thus far. Leaks from the Genshin Impact 2.1 beta test and datamining efforts had pointed to fishing being added and La Signora becoming a new weekly boss. The movesets and Ascension materials of the expected new playable characters also appeared online weeks in advance. Despite all this, miHoYo’s official livestreams still draw in plenty of viewers, since it’s the first time most of this content is officially confirmed.
Prior to the Special Program broadcast, miHoYo had already shown off images and background info on upcoming characters like Raiden Shogun (Baal), Sara, and Kokomi. However, the posts on social media stopped short of confirming them for Genshin Impact 2.1. Presumably, though, these early reveals were a way for miHoYo to preemptively show them off before they leaked from the beta test.
The Version 2.1 Special Program livestream for Genshin Impact, which was broadcast on Twitch and will have the full video uploaded to YouTube later today (the English live stream was delayed, but the Chinese version can be found on YouTube via taka gg), officially confirmed Raiden Shogun (Baal), Sara, and Kokomi will be joining the game’s rosters. As usual, all three characters will be obtained through the gacha Wish system, with a Banner featuring the 5-star Electro Archon, Raiden Shogun, debuting at the start of the 2.1 content. Sara, a 4-star Electro user, will also be a part of this Banner.
Kokomi’s Banner will come a little later in the update, however. Given the past schedules for new Banners, Kokomi should appear about halfway through the 2.1 update. This means fans should expect to find her Banner in-game around September 22. Meanwhile, expected playable characters like Yae and Thoma appear to be saved for a future update instead.
For now, it’s unclear when the other Inazuma characters will become playable, although those will ostensibly appear in Version 2.2, which should arrive in mid-October. In the meantime, it looks as if fans will have some great new characters to try to pull in the 2.1 content. Genshin Impact Version 2.1 will release on September 1, 2021.
