Smartphone developer Honor has just revealed the design of its hotly anticipated GS 3 smartwatch, and it looks beautiful, but details remain slim. The reveal falls in line with Honor’s strong lineup of smart devices including its latest smartphone the Honor 50 5G which was released in June 2021, and its previous smartwatch the Honor GS Pro which boasted top-of-the-line fitness tracking, incredible durability, and a 1.39″ display.
The new watch comes not a moment too soon for the Chinese tech company which, according to Counterpoint, has seen its 12% market share in China shrink to 5%. Honor’s parent company Huawei saw a similar decline in China over the past 12 months after falling from 33% market share in mid-2020 to 15% in Q2 2021. Meanwhile, Xiaomi became the world’s number one selling smartphone in June, eclipsing its rivals.
Honor’s announcement came on an official Weibo post showing off images of the watch as well as a glimpse at the smartwatch’s features primarily focusing on its cutting edge fitness tracking capabilities. According to the post, we know the Honor GS 3 smartwatch will include “an industry-leading heart rate monitoring solution, an 8-channel heart rate Al engine equipped with an 8-channel innovative PPG heart rate monitoring module, effectively improving the accuracy of dynamic heart rate. Heart rate AI fusion technology, 8-channel data acquisition, 4-channel data processing, AI algorithm fusion, faster and more accurate capture of your heart rate signal.” From this press release, we can already see that this watch will be heavily fitness-focused while claiming to be innovative with its use of AI. Still, the most interesting thing about the watch so far is how good it looks.
The press release also expands that through the use of “frequency tracking algorithm and the AI heart rate algorithms” heart rate and frequency tracking are calculated simultaneously, meaning faster and more accurate results. The post also shows off the GS 3’s available designs: the sleek blue Global Voyage, the indulgent gold Streamer Classic, and the no-nonsense all-black Racing Pioneer.
Details including a release date and price have yet to be revealed. The new designs were received very well by Honor smartwatch fans with many enthusiasts eyeing up the Global Voyage design. In response to the suggested new features, one user remarked “AI technology is used in watches, it is absolutely glorious“. This new smartwatch design looks like it could be destined to be an Apple killer with its extremely high tech revealed specs it will be hard to compare with its fitness tracking capabilities.
