A large part of Gossip Girl‘s allure is the glamorous and opulent lives that the leading teenagers live. Obnoxiously rich, these kids don’t need to look at the cost of things that they want, nor have they ever heard the word “budget” in their lives. The most prosperous students at Constance Billard School and St. Jude’s School come from generational lucre — the scions of big bill real estate developers, big pharma businesses, and massive media empires.
Others like Julien, Luna, and Max are a part of the glitzy world of Hollywood and theatre, with their folks being veterans of the arts and therefore very wealthy. Fans love watching the sumptuous existence of these rich kids and living vicariously through the lives they lead, which are free of consequences.
7 Audrey Hope
The daughter of designer Kiki Hope has been facing financial trouble lately, but that doesn’t mean that the family’s personal wealth is diminished in any way. Audrey’s mother’s company is flailing on the show, but the duo owns a penthouse in the toniest locality of Manhattan and are a part of the most affluent milieu of America.
Since Kiki’s fast fashion athleisure line took off, Audrey and her family grew their wealth exponentially, and Audrey got used to having the finer things in life. She also has a massive family estate in Cornwall which sprawls over a luxurious 5 acres of land. Audrey has no problem affording things, but she also doesn’t flaunt this wealth, making her one of the most likable characters on Gossip Girl.
6 Luna La
Stylist par excellence and Julien’s loyal friend, Luna La hails from Mexico, but lives in New York by herself and dreams up outfits ahead of their time on Gossip Girl. In her native country, her parents are a big deal in cinema. Her father is an acclaimed film director, and her mother is a massively famous Mexican actress. Luna’s parents travel around the globe and make movies, while their daughter bumps shoulders with the upper echelons of Manhattan society.
The Mexican teen’s closet is chock full of designer labels and the latest trends, although she doesn’t sport clothing pasted with big name logos. She has a disdain for fast fashion chains like Zara. Luna’s home was briefly shown in the first episode of Gossip Girl, and it seemed a lot more luxurious than the average single person’s shoebox in New York City.
5 Akeno “Aki” Menzies
The shy movie buff might not wear his wealth on his sleeve, but he is one of the richest kids in the whole of New York. Aki is the fifth child of media mogul Roger Menzies, an 88-year-old businessman who owns most of mainstream media, especially the right-wing publications that make a lot of money.
Akeno lives with his mother, who is a high profile corporate connector herself. The mother and son reside in the poshest Southern Central Park tower in the city, where their apartment is high among the clouds. Akeno’s life is one filled with private jets, corporate enemies, wire taps, and opulence.
4 Julien Calloway
The influencer of Constance Billard School was definitely born with a silver spoon, but she has the most entrepreneurial spirit amongst her spoilt peers. Her enviable pied-a-terre in New York is a result of her father Davis’ musical success — he’s earned five Grammys, which is supposed to be more than any other DJ slash producer in his genre.
In addition to generational wealth, Julien herself has a huge Instagram following which gives her high social status on Gossip Girl, which she plans to monetize with the right sponsorship deals with huge brands like Sephora, Revlon, and Glossier. Granted, her claim to fame is mainly due to the access she had to celebrities since a young age, but she’s the only one who decided to build something of her own with her privilege.
3 Monet de Haan
A product of very old New York money, Monet is the school terror and she has the wealth to back it up. She is the most affluent teenager at Constance Billard, and she makes the most of this fact. Teachers are subject to her scrutiny, and because her family are big donors to the school, she can get them fired with a flick of her wrist.
Monet’s parents, Greyson and Camille, are in big pharmaceuticals which explains how they became so well-to-do. The teenager wears old-school Chanel to school, and vintage Versace to parties, and her home is a palace with a staff waiting on her every whim. Fans have even theorized that the de Haans had donated a whole library wing to the school, which can be seen fleetingly in the original Gossip Girl series.
2 Max Wolfe
Labels like Thom Browne, Amiri, Paco Rabbane, and Gucci litter Max Wolfe’s everyday wardrobe. This, and his lavish party-hard lifestyle, indicates just how prosperous he is — or his parents are, anyway. A seasoned theatre virtuoso, Gideon Wolfe seems to be the biggest money maker in the family, but Roy Sachs, landscaper extraordinaire doesn’t seem to be far behind.
Max’s wealth comes from the arts, unlike the other kids whose parents are big business tycoons. Accordingly, his fathers raised him to be his most authentic and fearless self and never be afraid of expressing himself, which Max definitely doesn’t shy away from. He has one of the most wholesome families in Gossip Girl, at least for a while.
1 Otto “Obie” Bergmann IV
Everything about Obie screams money, even if he doesn’t want it to. The only child of real estate magnates Otto and Helena Bergmann, Obie is essentially Upper East Side royalty, a title that he fights with a vengeance. His wealth comes mainly from the property resale and redevelopment that his parents’ company engages in, which often displaces vulnerable minorities and leaves them homeless.
Obie’s parents are usually away for business, so the privileged teenager lives all alone in a multi-storied loft in Dumbo, where he has a dedicated staff which attends to cleaning, cooking, laundry, and even preparing his schedule for him.
