The marriages featured on Married At First Sight have failed for a slew of dramatic reasons, and it appears that Myrla Feria and Gil Cuero’s relationship won’t survive due to Myrla’s demanding behavior. Viewers are still getting to know the Married At First Sight season 13 cast, but Myrla’s high maintenance energy has already established her as unpopular with some fans. From arguing about what to do with Gil’s dog to having an unwavering stance on politics, here’s why Myrla’s critical character could be holding her back from a long-lasting marriage.
Plenty of successful marriages have been produced through Married At First Sight‘s matchmaking process, but the series’ relationship experts might have missed the mark on Myrla and Gil’s coupling. Myrla entered the Texas-based season as a 34-year-old leadership coach with high expectations for her husband. Myrla earned the nickname “Picture Perfect Princess” because of her perfectionist tendencies, which have exhibited themselves throughout her marriage on Married At First Sight. Unfortunately for Myrla, no relationship is perfect, and the reality TV personality has demonstrated that she might not be able to settle for less.
Right from the jump, Gil couldn’t meet Myrla’s aspirations for the husband she hoped to be paired with on her Married At First Sight debut. One thing Myrla specifically wanted was a husband with a full head of hair. Before even saying one word to him, Gil’s bald head made a poor first impression upon Myrla. Although many bald husbands have had successful marriages in Married At First Sight‘s past, Myrla couldn’t see past her demand getting shut down. On Married At First Sight: Unfiltered Myrla shared that she was “literally freaking out” when she saw Gil’s hair-free head. Myrla was boggled that Pastor Cal Roberson wasn’t able to follow the star’s requirement, as Myrla testifies she was “very specific.” Regrettably, Myrla’s stringent nature goes beyond hairdos.
When discussing politics, Myrla shared she couldn’t be in a relationship with someone who has disparate political beliefs. Although she and Gil both identified as Democrats, viewers see Myrla’s staunch political stance as an example of her unyielding personality. Gil shared he is flexible and can be in a relationship with people who are Democrats or Republicans. Myrla’s picky personality clashes with Gil’s laid-back approach in this instance. Another divisive issue for the married couple is Gil’s dog. Myrla asserted she is not a dog person and wouldn’t want a pup in her life. Much to Myrla’s dismay, a marriage with Gil comes paired with his cherished pitbull mix. Myrla admitted she thinks dogs are great animals but doesn’t want to live with one because “they slobber [and] they shed.”
Myrla is entitled to her standards, but fans think she has too many dealbreakers that prevent her from making her marriage with Gil work. From not wanting a bald husband to stubbornly opposing Gil’s political opinion, Myrla’s expectations might be getting in the way of having a happy relationship. Hopefully, Myrla can learn to accept new possibilities before her marriage ends in divorce on Married At First Sight.
Married At First Sight airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET on Lifetime.
