In honor of the recent success of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Bioware is teaming up with Idea Planet Launch to release a collectible replica of the Citadel. The Mass Effect series has spawned plenty of fun merchandise over the years, from toys to t-shirts to miniature statues of iconic characters like Liara T’Soni.
For the uninitiated, the Citadel is a floating space station that serves as a hub world at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, where members of various alien races live, shop, and discuss matters of interstellar business and politics – not unlike the planet Coruscant of the Star Wars franchise. Hence, it is an important location throughout all three installments of the Mass Effect trilogy, as Commander Shepard and the crew of the Normandy return there regularly to stock up on supplies, try to warn the Citadel Council about the impending threat of the Reapers, or even throw the occasional house party – as was the case in Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC. However, the Citadel also holds a few dark secrets dating back to the time of the ancient Protheans, and as the Mass Effect series goes on it becomes a crucial component in the battle to prevent the Reapers from eradicating all organic life in the universe.
According to Game Informer, collectible company Idea Planet Launch announced that it is joining forces with Bioware to produce a special collectible replica of Mass Effect’s Citadel on Twitter yesterday, having previously teased such a collaboration a few months ago. There are currently no images of this replica, but fans interested in ordering one can log onto MassEffectLaunch.com for updates whenever they become available.
As mentioned before, players have been able to take in the sights of the Citadel all over again in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which launched to much acclaim back in May. A current-gen update off all three original Mass Effect games, this collection has allowed players to notice several interesting secrets and Easter Eggs within the Citadel, like unused concept art or even the existence of a controversial holo-game that manages to be even darker than the real-life Grand Theft Auto series it serves as a reference to.
While fans still can’t see what Idea Planet Launch and Bioware have in store for the upcoming Mass Effect Citadel collectible replica currently, the idea of a scaled version of the galactic hub sounds like a fun idea for hobbyists and Mass Effect Legendary Edition players who would like a little something special for their toy shelves. Details about this Citadel replica (including a potential release date) are still scarce, so interested fans should stay tuned for future developments as they unfold.
