Chase Severino was quickly categorized as the villain of My Big Fat Fabulous Life after he broke Whitney Way Thore’s heart. However, even after he left the show and moved on, fans can’t seem to stop thinking of the bar owner as a bad dude. Here is how he became the show’s villain.
Chase is no stranger to fans’ disdain for him as he opened up about his awful experience and the backlash of hate he has received over the past few months. My Big Fat Fabulous Life fans will remember Whitney had to take to her Instagram account back in May to clear the air about her relationship with Chase. In a shocking revelation, Whitney let her followers know that the duo was no longer a couple as Chase was an expecting father. It came to light that during the pandemic, Chase had been staying at his home in Wilmington, where he reignited a relationship with a former girlfriend. TLC viewers have not been able to forgive him even though it looks like both he and Whitney have moved on.
As their relationship became more public, fans noticed the tiny pressures he was putting on Whitney. Chase wanted her to move to Wilmington since, at the time, he had his college bar there. Whitney had already moved twice and wanted Chase to make an effort. He also had a jealous side when it came to Whitney’s close friend Buddy Bell. Given, Buddy shouldn’t have been walking around in his underwear, but the fears seemed unfounded and showed Chase might not have fully trusted the No BS Active founder. Chase also wasn’t sure about having kids, but Whitney voiced her desire to be a mother. In the end, it looked like the pandemic just tore the already fragile relationship apart.
When Chase first stepped onto the show, he seemed like a great person. Whitney met him through Ryan Andreas as the two were fraternity brothers at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Chase was laid back and exuded coolness thanks to his man bun and flip-flops. He swept Whitney and fans off their feet after taking her to a Charlotte brewery and swinging in a hammock with her. He always seemed very supportive of her and happy in his relationship.
Maybe the question of the biggest villain on the show comes down to the coronavirus taking first place with Chase as runner-up. It hasn’t helped Chase’s standing with fans that he often hits back at mean comments or private messages to anyone who writes about him. Chase is set to make an appearance on the new season, which has fans wondering why Whitney would want him to. Surely the two should just call it a day and totally walkway from one another since there is no need to be friends.
My Big Fat Fabulous Life airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
