Netflix has officially renewed the coming-of-age comedy Never Have I Ever for season 3. Never Have I Ever was co-created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, who previously worked together on the romantic comedy sitcom, The Mindy Project. It tells the story of Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), an Indian American teenager who must balance complicated relationships at school and at home in the wake of her father’s unexpected death. Never Have I Ever premiered in April 2020 to critical and commercial acclaim, and season 2 was released in July 2021.
Per TVLine, streaming giant Netflix has now revealed that Never Have I Ever has been greenlit for season 3. The announcement was made as part of the virtual Television Critics Association summer press tour. Read Kaling and Fisher’s joint statement about their show’s renewal below:
“We are so grateful to Netflix and Universal Television for letting us continue to tell this story, and to the fans around the world who clamored to see more of this badly behaved Indian teenager.”
Kaling and Fisher also posted about the news on Instagram, expressing their excitement about having the opportunity to make Never Have I Ever season 3. The series’ main cast shared the news as well. They are all expected to return, including Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Darren Barnet, Jaren Lewison, Lee Rodriguez, and Ramona Young. Also returning will be tennis legend John McEnroe as the series’ narrator, and of course, Ramakrishnan herself as Devi. No start dates for the next season have been announced, but based on the show’s production history, if season 3 of Never Have I Ever starts filming in the next few months, it could very well be released sometime in mid-2022.
