Pierce Brosnan has been cast as the lead in Fast Charlie, an action thriller about a hitman gone solo. Over the past year, the former James Bond and Mamma Mia star appeared in a host of recent movies including The Misfits, Cinderella, and False Positive. Brosnan’s long list of upcoming projects includes the upcoming DC flick Black Adam, The King’s Daughter, The Out-Law, Youth, The Medusa, The Last Rifleman, and Not Bloody Likely.
It was recently announced that Brosnan will add another project to his docket with Fast Charlie. Brosnan has been cast as the film’s lead, Charlie Swift, a hitman who whos solo after a botched job. Other roles remain to be cast. The film will be directed by Phillip Noyce (Salt, Clear and Present Danger) with a screenplay from Richard Wenk (The Magnificent Seven, The Equalizer). Production is planned to start in January.
Executive producers on the film are David Fannon and Seth Needle for Screen Media, Mark Damon and Tamara Birkemoe for Foresight Unlimited, and David Nagelberg. Daniel Grodnik and Mitchell Welch are also producing. Brosnan, Noyce, and Wenk are all veterans of the action-thriller genre, a selling point that Fannon emphasizes:
“Pierce Brosnan, Phillip Noyce and Richard Wenk have delivered some of the most commercial, action-filled films of the past few decades. We’re certain audiences across the globe will jump at the chance to enter into this exciting world and story.”
Fast Charlie is based on Victor Gischler’s crime novel Gun Monkeys. The team behind the project say it’s “a killer film about an especially likable killer.” According to the synopsis, Brosnan’s Charlie has worked for his aging mob boss Stan for 20 years as an “efficient hitman.” Faced with threats from a rival boss, however, he fails in his mission to eliminate them. Now, Charlie is on a mission to avenge those he’s lost. With action veteran Brosnan at the helm, the upcoming thriller is unlikely to disappoint.
