Robyn Brown has bared the brunt of fans’ vitriol on Sister Wives for her controlling behavior, but many of the wrongdoings viewers accuse Robyn of are the result of her husband’s actions. Audiences assume that Robyn is the manipulator behind all of Kody’s unpopular decisions. While the sister wife surely influences her husband, Kody should not be able to evade accountability. From Kody’s blatant favoritism to fans’ misplaced shade, here’s why Robyn does not deserve all of the criticism she gets from viewers.
Robyn is Kody’s fourth and most recent wife, which established a tricky dynamic for the three other Sister Wives stars. Kody married Meri, Janelle, and Christine in the early 1990s. It wasn’t until 2010 that Kody welcomed Robyn into his plural marriage. As the newest wife, Kody made extra room in his life for Robyn and made less space for his trio of previous wives. Time and time again, Kody has prioritized Robyn and her children over his other family members. This has had disastrous side effects, like Meri becoming the victim of a catfish scandal. Although Robyn is part of the reason why Kody isn’t focused on his other marriages, it’s Kody who deserves the criticism for his failed relationships, not Robyn.
Robyn is routinely condemned for all of the preferential treatment she gets from Kody. Among Sister Wives‘ stars and fans, it’s no secret that Kody treats Robyn best. Viewers have angrily pointed out instances of Robyn receiving more attention and affection than Meri, Janelle, and Christine and used these occasions as justification for throwing shade at Robyn. One example of Kody’s bias that fans have held against Robyn is the lack of support he showed his daughter, Ysabel. Christine and Kody’s daughter Ysabel was diagnosed with scoliosis in 2017, but it wasn’t until 2020 that she was finally able to get treatment. Ysabel endured a painful surgery to rectify her spine issues, but Kody didn’t show up for the operation. Kody cited the COVID-19 pandemic as his reason for not wanting to travel, but he proved himself to be a hypocrite when Robyn’s child needed surgery.
Robyn’s son Dayton has had trouble with his eye since he got in an ATV accident. Fans noted Kody was much more accommodating of Robyn’s son when it came time for him to get cosmetic surgery to correct his eyelid than he was of Ysabel’s major spine surgery. Viewers were quick to blame Robyn for Kody’s unfair treatment. It was also alleged that Robyn didn’t want Kody to leave her for Ysabel’s surgery, once again making her the true antagonist. While all of fans’ arguments about Robyn’s hold over Kody are true, and his hypocrisy is palpable, Robyn hasn’t earned the brunt of the blame for Kody’s actions. Ultimately, Ysabel is Kody’s child, not Robyn’s. As her father, it’s Kody’s duty to be there for Ysabel, no matter how his other wives might have tried to sway him.
Robyn has an unfair advantage over her fellow sister wives because of Kody’s devotion, but that shouldn’t be enough reason for audiences to hold the fourth wife responsible for all of her husband’s mistakes. From offering disproportionate affection to not showing up for all of his kids, Kody has earned fans’ criticism. While Robyn might have Kody’s heart, she isn’t owed the blame that he has reaped for her on Sister Wives.
