The Morning Show was one of the biggest draws to Apple TV+ when the streaming service first launched, thanks to its A-list cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell, among others (which might explain why The Morning Show is so expensive). The show tackles the very topical issue of sexual harassment and abuse of power in the workplace right at a pivotal point of the rise of the #MeToo movement.
With season 2 premiering in September 2021, fans are excited for the return of the show and looking forward to finding out what happens in the aftermath. With an episode released every week, it will be a slow development but fans will undoubtedly enjoy the ride.
10 Find Out What Happened To Mitch
The end of the first season showed a beaten and battered Mitch sitting alone in his home. His family had presumably left him and Chip beat him up after learning of Hannah’s suicide by overdose, which was likely fueled by her trauma.
Will Mitch face legal troubles? Will he find his way back into a career in media or be ostracized? What will other blowbacks be from the discovery of his abuses of now just Hannah but many women who worked at the station and through his career?
9 The Outcome Of Alex And Bradley’s Scathing On-Air Revelations
In the final episode, which IMDb ranks as the best episode in season 1 of The Morning Show, Alex and Bradley decided to go off script and reveal all of the cover-ups and events that had been happening behind the scenes at the network. They spoke quickly, passionately, and fiercely to ensure that they could get as much details out on live television before the cameras cut off.
How the network will handle their behavior remains to be seen. The trailer suggests that Alex willingly left the show while Bradley stayed on. But the events between the off-script rants and their respective decisions will be revealed.
8 Chip Gets His Job Back
Chip was effectively collateral damage to a controversy he instigated, having secretly been the one to reveal Mitch’s actions in order to try and get him fired. He wanted to out someone who was doing heinous things and that he believed needed to be stopped. But it was also for selfish reasons to help his friend Alex.
Of the many people who did, and likely will, lose their jobs, however, Chip – who was fired in the final episode – is arguably not one of them. What will his career status be in the new season?
7 Bradley And Alex Team Up Again
Bradley and Alex might not stay at the network, but will they move on together, perhaps starting their own morning show on another network, or even their own web series? The trailer includes moments that imply Bradley wants them to remain a team while Alex is reluctant to continue on screen.
Whatever move they make by the end of season 2, it would be nice to see Alex and Bradley team up together and do something with meaning that goes beyond just surface-level morning news and fun and quirky morning show bits.
6 Mitch’s Remorse
Mitch, the least likable character on The Morning Show, may be seeking forgiveness, but will it be genuine or just in an effort to get his job – or any job – back? Will he truly realize the seriousness of his offenses and admit his guilt? Hannah’s death might just have been the event to make him realize what he was doing was not okay.
Some fans might want to see the character get redemption, or at least start working towards earning forgiveness from those he wronged.
5 Some Kind Of Justice For Hannah
Hannah sadly met a tragic end, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be justice for her so her death wasn’t in vein. There needs to be a rally against Mitch, and others like him, in Hannah’s name and honor.
Perhaps there will be protests or a fund set up in her name or segment dedicated to her. Whatever the case, all of the efforts by Bradley, Alex, and others to stop the cycle in the workplace and prevent another similar incidents from happening should be in Hannah’s name.
4 Fred Micklen Is Fired
Fred Micklen, the President of UBA network, might not have been guilty of sexual assault himself, but he willingly fostered a culture of it and accepted the behavior for the sake of his star on-air personality. He repeatedly swept things under the rug and continued to pay off women to keep them quiet so the news of Mitch’s actions never got out instead of taking steps to stop it, or outright firing Mitch.
The worst, however, was his dismissal of Hannah and her claims, acting as though they were no big deal. He needs to be face as much backlash as Mitch, if not more. The trailer suggests he is still active at the network, but there may be a day of reckoning.
3 More Layers Of Cory Are Revealed
Cory was one of the most interesting and most powerful characters on the The Morning Show, which is why it’s no surprise that Billy Crudup won an Emmy for his performance. He was also very mysterious: fans weren’t sure if Cory was one of the good guys or the bad guys, and still aren’t.
His actions sometimes seemed genuine, but also self-serving. It would be great to find out more about Cory’s backstory and peel back additional layers off the man who will be running the morning show going forward.
2 More Stories That Mirror Real Life Events
It’s no surprise that the core story in The Morning Show mirrors ones that have happened in real life, time and time again. Fans and critics have drawn their comparisons. Even though in Variety’s interview with Jennifer Aniston, she insists the show is a work of fiction, it’s difficult not to see eerie similarities between the events in the series and that of disgraced morning show host Matt Lauer.
Nonetheless, so much has happened, and continues to happen and make the news, since the first season was released. It would be interesting to see season 2 take inspiration from more real-life events to spark additional conversations.
1 More People At The Network Are Held Accountable
Fred and Mitch were the main two figures who deserved to be chastised for their actions. But the truth is that many other people played a role as well, either by witnessing what was going on and not doing anything about it, downplaying situations, or simply turning a blind eye.
Even Chip and Alex – two of the more intelligent characters on The Morning Show – are guilty of working in blissful ignorance when what Mitch was doing was the worst kept secret in the office. It’s important that, in season 2, more people are held accountable for the roles they played in fostering such a damaging work culture.
