Elena Gilbert may be the protagonist of The Vampire Diaries, but the show eventually transformed into an ensemble. After Nina Dobrev’s departure, the strong cast of characters allowed it to continue on. Caroline Forbes remains a fan favorite, and Caroline’s romance with Klaus became integral to The Vampire Diaries universe.
Klaus and Caroline both have their own unique sense of humor that flares up in each other’s presence. Although their relationship is complicated, they have one of the funniest dynamics in the series. Caroline often uses hostility to hide her true feelings, and their constant bickering makes their scenes witty and entertaining.
10 Caroline Goes To Klaus For A Prom Dress
This scene is especially hilarious once it’s put into perspective. Klaus went from being the biggest threat they had ever faced, to somehow the man whose house Caroline could barge into unannounced. If anyone else walked in uninvited and demanded help, it’s likely Klaus would’ve killed them in an instant.
Yet, Klaus broke out into a fit of laughter at the way Caroline treated her stolen prom dress like a life or death situation. Considering how many frivolous things he tries to bestow upon her, Klaus giving her a prom dress of “royal caliber” was to be expected.
9 Klaus Tells Caroline About His Friend, Magellan
Sparks were flying between Caroline and Klaus throughout this episode, and Caroline did her best to ignore them. The more she found herself being attracted to the show’s big bad, the more Caroline tried to deny it. She picks a fight with Klaus while they’re searching for the expression triangle, and they end up bickering as they walk through the woods.
It’s easy to forget just how long Klaus has been around, but viewers are reminded when he defends his map-reading skills. Klaus referring to Magellan as his friend was funny enough, but Caroline’s shock over Klaus having a friend at all was the perfect punch-line.
8 Caroline Comments On Klaus’s New Way Of Flirting
Klaus does have a variety of tactics that he uses to get Caroline’s attention, and Caroline assuming this was one of them was the best moment of the episode. Convinced that he had a piece of the white oak stake just millimeters from his heart, Klaus called Caroline for help.
He wasn’t sure it was actually her when she showed up, as Silas had pretended to be Caroline a few moments before. Klaus was covered in sweat and physically writhing in pain, yet Caroline still asked if it was his new, weird way of flirting. Given how crazy Klaus is about her, the accusation wasn’t as absurd as it should’ve been.
7 Caroline Introduces Klaus As Bob, The Janitor
Due to their relationship development, The Originals Season 5 has some of the best Klaus and Caroline dialogues in The Vampire Diaries universe. Caroline no longer felt the need to hide her connection with Klaus, but the two still managed to have dynamic and exciting scenes.
Breaking the pact they made after sleeping together, Klaus shows up to visit Caroline in Mystic Falls. He pops in while she’s giving a tour of the boarding school, and she attempts to write him off as a janitor named Bob. Klaus defends his being there with how much time had passed, as it had been almost fifteen years.
6 Klaus Mocks Caroline’s Miss Mystic Application
Klaus and Caroline’s first date remains one of their top moments in The Vampire Diaries. The date didn’t come about naturally, and Caroline had to be coerced into going. But there was no hiding how much she enjoyed spending time with him. Even Tyler, who she was dating at the time, took notice of the way Caroline was acting.
Klaus wasn’t going to waste his shot, and he showed up at the pageant with Caroline’s Miss Mystic Falls application in his pocket. Watching the original hybrid giggle, tease Caroline, and play keep-away was just as shocking as it was funny.
5 Caroline Is Klaus Bait
Klaus never hid how he felt about Caroline, and she, as well as the other characters, used it to their advantage. He deserves everything they do to him, yet, it’s somehow still disheartening to watch Caroline toy with Klaus’s emotions.
Even though Caroline would entertain Klaus as a ploy, sometimes it appeared as though she didn’t mind the excuse to be around him. She entered the grill to get Klaus’s attention, and he immediately took the bait. The most entertaining part is when Klaus runs across the street after Caroline and almost gets hit by a car in his eagerness.
4 Klaus Cashes In His Date With Caroline
Caroline made a deal with Klaus to convince him to give up one of his hybrids for Elena. She agreed to go on a date with him, which Klaus immediately took her up on at the beginning of the next episode. Caroline’s complaints, mixed with the puppy-dog eyes Klaus gives her, make for a particularly compelling scene.
It feels safe to say that this version of Klaus wasn’t what the characters were picturing when they first heard the horror stories about the oldest and evilest vampire in the history of time. While he could still be considered those things, Caroline turns Klaus into a middle school boy who gets nervous around his crush.
3 Caroline Realizes Klaus Has A Heart
She may have been digging through his back with pliers, but even that didn’t stop Caroline from trash-talking Klaus. It might sound cruel, but every jab Caroline takes at him is justified. By making Klaus earn her affection, she became a major player in his character development.
Caroline feigns shock, and it seemed as though she may have found the remains of the white oak stake. But the fake surprise was due to her finding Klaus’s heart, and while he might not have found it funny, it was a clever insult.
2 They Talk About Teenage Girls Being Drawn To “Bad Boys”
A decade had passed since Caroline and Klaus first met, and their relationship became full of light teasing instead of hostile comments. While both make for hilarious moments, their transition from enemies to close friends was much needed. Caroline understood why Hope had run off with Landon because “bad boys” were like a rite of passage to some girls.
Klaus doesn’t buy into it, but Caroline reminds him that she had also fallen under their spell when she was a teenager. Some of them also happened to be way too old for her. Klaus is a thousand-year-old vampire, so Caroline does have a point. However, they both agree that the unnamed bad boy might’ve had pure intentions.
1 Caroline “Whooshes” At The Sight Of Klaus
Caroline hadn’t seen Klaus since he attended her graduation during the fourth season finale, but she was too preoccupied searching for Matt to give him the time of day. Caroline continuously “whooshed” at the sight of his face, which Klaus only found amusing.
He lets her go on a giant goose chase, despite already finding Matt and sending Rebekah to save him. Their scenes in the 100th episode touch on their comedic side while giving Klaroline fans what they had been waiting for. He ends up choosing her over revenge, which is one of the most romantic things Klaus ever did for Caroline in The Vampire Diaries.
