Moriah Plath from Welcome to Plathville has always been the rebel of the Plath family, and a lot of fans believe that Olivia Plath encourages her to defy her parents. It’s true that she has had help from Olivia when it comes to breaking the rules. The two women are far from the stay-at-home housewives Kim Plath wants them to be. Moriah has begun branching out in life, with the help of her sister-in-law.
The TLC hit Welcome to Plathville follows Kim and Barry around their home in Cairo, Georgia. The couple has nine children, whom they raised on an isolated farm with a moral code that included modest dressing and no sugar. TLC viewers learned that the kids were homeschooled. Much of their time was spent outside playing, doing housework, and fixing up cars in the garage. The three oldest children who appear on the show, Ethan Plath, Micah Plath, and Moriah Plath, have all left their family home to pursue their own dreams. However, each dream came at a cost, as some of their decisions didn’t sit well with Kim or Barry Plath.
Olivia was not seen as the perfect match for the Plath’s oldest son Ethan at the time of their marriage. Even though Olivia was brought up in a conservative household like her husband, she was afforded a few extra freedoms. While Ethan had few friends or worldly experiences, Olivia was able to socialize and get a glimpse of the outside world. Because of this, Kim and Barry looked at her as a problem. Soon after joining the family, she started to help Moriah see that there was more out there. Moriah just turned 19, as seen below:
Throughout their time together, Moriah was lucky enough to travel to San Francisco during season 2, to help Olivia with a photoshoot. She got a chance to see Florida’s state capital, Tallahassee. When the children were allowed to be with Welcome to Plathville‘s Ethan and Olivia, it was common knowledge that their sweet treats. would be offered. On one of the last family outings, Olivia encouraged Ethan to have an alcoholic drink at a restaurant. None of these moves pleased Kim and Barry, who felt that Olivia was a bad influence.
Moriah felt different from the rest of her family before Olivia came along. Olivia just helped her embrace her natural personality and ambitions. It is unfair to expect Olivia to follow strict rules that she doesn’t believe in. The TLC star never forced Moriah to act out. In fact, she was a shoulder to cry on when her young sister-in-law felt lost and alone.
Welcome to Plathville airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
