The first teaser for Amazon’s The Wheel of Time series has premiered, previewing the endless battle between good and evil. Written by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time series spans 14 novels, 1 prequel and 2 companion books and is widely considered to be one of the best fantasy sagas since JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. Set in a world overseen the powerful, all-female Aes Sedai, The Wheel of Time follows a group of young people from the small, forgotten town of Emond’s Field in the Two Rivers. Unbeknownst to them, their destinies are intertwined with the fate of the world and the mystical One Power wielded by the Aes Sedai against the evil forces of The Dark One.
Rosamund Pike is set to play Moiraine Damodred, an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah who goes to Emond’s Field seeking out Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), Mat Cauthon (Barney Harris), and Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford). They will be joined on their journey by Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney), a Warder bonded to Moiraine, and fellow Emond’s Fielders Nynave al’Mera (Zoë Robins) and Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden). The Wheel of Time season 1 is set to premiere on Amazon sometime this November and filming has already begun on season 2, with showrunner Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) planning on interweaving various aspects of all the novels into the first batch of episodes.
Now, Amazon has officially unveiled the first trailer for The Wheel of Time, giving audiences a glimpse at the battle between good and evil at the heart of the series. The clip begins with Nynaeve telling Egwene, “Be strong,” before Pike’s Moiraine can be heard giving an overview of the series’ lore. From there, The Wheel of Time‘s trailer introduces viewers to the series’ cast of characters before showing just what’s in store for them on their dangerous and epic adventure. The trailer also takes time to dive heavily into the mythology behind the Aes Sedai, the magical backbone of the fantastical series. From glimpses of the mythical Tar Valon, home of the Aes Sedai, to showing the One Power in action, The Wheel of Time‘s first trailer is chockfull of action to appeal to both newcomers and diehard fans who are sure to recognize some of the more intricate details at play in the clip.
The trailer stresses just how epic The Wheel of Time will be. With every streamer and network clamoring for the next Game of Thrones-esque hit, Amazon currently has two in the works, with November’s Wheel of Time set to premiere first before the streamer debuts their highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series next year. Luckily, no matter what happens, The Wheel of Time will be able to tell a decent chunk of its story and with the promise of a second season already guaranteed, audiences are more likely to invest in the series now that it could potentially air for years to come.
