With the return of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, many fans are once again finding that they prefer the spin-off over the original 90 Day Fiancé, and there are several reasons why it it the superior show. Viewers are excited for The Other Way season 3 cast, and it’s because the format of the spin-off show does away with many of the problematic elements of 90 Day Fiancé. Fans are starting to gravitate to the main series’ spin-offs, and it could indicate 90 Day Fiancé has gotten stale.
After several successful seasons of 90 Day Fiancé, it was no surprise when TLC decided to produce a number of spin-offs. Season 3 of The Other Way features four returning couples and two new ones, and even though there’s only a few new faces, anticipation is high nonetheless. Other spin-offs, like 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, and 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, have also captured the interest of viewers and have become just as popular, or even more than, the original series. However, The Other Way has a uniquely different premise that changes the entire dynamic of the show.
Cast members are often accused of being “green card hunters” on 90 Day Fiancé, as many of the American partner’s friends and family are instantly suspicious of the foreign partner. But on The Other Way, that’s not an issue. When the American partner moves to another country, it’s more clear that the relationship is legitimate, because their foreign partner isn’t really gaining anything other than love. Sometimes issues of finance come into play, but for the most part, the couples on The Other Way often come across as more genuine.
There’s another reason why the spin-off is so popular—at least among viewers in Western countries. On 90 Day Fiancé, Western viewers often have trouble relating the foreign cast members. They don’t know what it’s like to come to America from a different country, but they can imagine relocating and adapting to their spouse’s culture. When the roles are reversed, Western viewers feel more connected to the cast because they can identify with them.
Fans are connecting with 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way more than they are with 90 Day Fiancé, and it’s all because of its distinctly different premise. The relationships feel both more sincere and more relatable, so it’s no wonder that many viewers prefer the spin-off. The storylines on 90 Day Fiancé have gotten stale because they all center around the same concerns. But on The Other Way, there’s more variety, which keeps viewers engaged. Although the franchise is still extremely popular, many fans find themselves more interested in the cast members on shows like The Other Way, and they could lose interest in the core series.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs Sundays at 8pm EST on TLC.
