Fans of LEGO and Wii Sports Resort might soon be able to get their hands on an official collaboration set honoring the classic Nintendo Wii game thanks to the LEGO Ideas initiative. Nintendo appears to have abandoned the Wii series, choosing not to continue the line of sports party games with Nintendo Switch, but LEGO could be ready to fill the Wii Sports Resort void.
Wii Sports Resort was one of the most beloved Wii titles, impressing players with its variety of minigames and competitive play. The title followed on from Wii Sports, which came bundled with the Nintendo Wii itself in order to show off the capabilities of the console’s motion controls. Wii Sports Resort improved on the original release by adding a host of new challenges and minigames, all set in the tropical realm of Wuhu Island. The game was a hit, and many Nintendo fans have called for a Switch release of Wii Sports Resort for a new generation of gamers to enjoy.
While Nintendo has been keeping quiet on the series’ potential future on Switch, its players haven’t forgotten the joy of Wii Sports Resort, with one LEGO Ideas fan seeking the approval of an official set inspired by the game. Creator Stacked Towel has envisioned a Wii Sports Resort LEGO set complete with Miis, seven playable minigames, and more, and the idea could hit store shelves pending its success with the initiative. Stacked Towels’ design exterior is based on the Wuhu Plaza’s Broken Clock Tower, with the set comprising of 1600 bricks and 10 Mii minifigures. The build would facilitate different playable games, including basketball, baseball, and bowling. The set would even include a “Mii Menu” where fans can “choose your own hair, dog, or outfit and examine a map of Wuhu Island.”
Despite originally being uploaded in 2020, Stacked Towels’ idea has seen a new surge in popularity after being selected as a Staff Pick by LEGO Ideas. The incredibly detailed LEGO version of Wii Sports Resort has been designed with competitive play in mind, similar to the original Nintendo Wii game itself. The creator has devised a multitude of ways to emulate the video game with two-player minigames built into the set. If the build is approved, players would be able to take part in LEGO versions of Wii Sports Resort games, spinning wheels, moving plungers, adjusting targets, and more, adding more playability than a typical LEGO build.
The LEGO set still needs a lot of support if fans want to see it become a reality. The LEGO Ideas program works by users submitting fully-fleshed out ideas for builds, which can then be endorsed by the community with support votes. If a build idea reaches 10,000 supporters, it can be selected to become an official LEGO set. The Wii Sports Resort LEGO idea is sitting at just over 1,500 supporters at the time of writing, meaning it has a fair way to go before it could become a real set. The design joins other gaming-focused LEGO Ideas such as a Prince of Persia-inspired LEGO set which gained traction earlier this summer. Those looking to support gaming LEGO Ideas to make the builds a reality can do so via the official website.
